For more information about reviews on ConsumerAffairs. Very well put together scam this app is. I made the mistake of a upgraded account as soon as I opened a normal one. That's 40 quid I'll never see again. Like everyone else on this page has said. Most profiles are fake sending spam links. Not only that, After you spend a stupid amount of money on upgrading your account the site still constantly pesters you on spending more money on "Tokens" to "get more popular and be noticed faster. A casino where you pay every time to spin for a random girl who almost definitely won't respond either because she doesn't exist or because the people that ARE real on this site are precious little princesses that have no personality that think.
I should be crawling on my hands and knees just for them to say hello? It's not got a good crowd. It's very hard and disheartening for people who are shy and not got much confidence in themselves on this site as you're making a big leap by putting yourself out there and then getting nothing in return and you're paying for it! Basically, to very bluntly sum up what this site is and who it's really for , Its a site where drop dead gorgeous muscular guys with no brain cells can meet drop dead gorgeous girls with no brain cells, fire a couple of innuendos at each other, meet up, bang, have a bit of drama then move on to the next one.
For one I think this site is sexist and allows men to degrade women and insult women with no consequences and do whatever they want. Most of these men on this site are just looking for sex and lie and say they want a relationship or something long term to get it. Once they realize that they might not get it they get nasty and mean and kick the girl to the curb to move on to the next victim. Women have to go through so much with trying to find a man on here that is not just looking to get in her pants if she actually want a real relationship and not just a hook up.
Most of the men on this site that I have encountered are rude, mean, shallow, conceited and think because they are a man they can act whatever way they want. It also seems odd that most of the reviews here are from men. Makes you wonder who is running this site. Then you have men putting stupid stuff on their profile like the reason all you women are single is because you put him in the friend zone. I mean really low quality men on here! A lot of drug users, men who are cheating.
This site will make you feel like a piece of meat and valued at all. Since last year I've had 4, fake profiles asking me to give them my email address. And I've met 23 women for dates, all of them ugly as. Not a very nice crowd. Lately I've started to see new profiles of absolutely super hot women Red Flag. I would select that I liked them. To my surprise, they all liked me back another Red Flag! When I would go to the Mutual liked page, the profiles didn't exist anymore. When you message some accounts, you could tell they were bots replying with canned responses, totally unrelated to the message you.
Most of the replies try to get you to message them off the POF site. This looks as though POF has created fake accounts to get unpaid members to pay in order to contact specific users. This seems to be unique to males messaging women, in that none of my women friends on POF have ever even seen this type of paid members only notification.
Red Flag When we started to talk amongst ourselves, we realized, NONE of us even knew how to set our profiles to block unpaid members. We eventually did find the setting. I've been a member of POF for a number of years and decided to upgrade and pay for membership this year. This past weekend after chatting with another member for a couple weeks, I uploaded pics to my profile and shared them privately with this member. I then deleted them from my profile. Shortly after this I went to upload a couple more and was faced with a message telling me my uploading privileges had been revoked. After multiple emails to POF demanding an explanation they replied with this:.
Please be advised that your uploading privileges have been revoked. Your account was found to be in violation of our Terms and Conditions as you have uploaded offensive material, indecent images, or re-posted images after having received an image warning. This ban cannot be reset. No nudity or anything inappropriate whatsoever.
Sorry POF but you just lost a paying subscriber and ongoing member. Fraud, scam and theft on this website!!! Do not pay for new features like webcam! I'M still waiting for my money back, but nothing. Be very careful and do not send your card details. I made a few decent connections on POF, but recently it's being overrun with these gorgeous young women profiles that are clearly fake.
They use the same "tagline" and if you upload their profile pic to Tineye. Reporting them is useless as I half believe it's POF itself doing this. The bottom line is NO gorgeous woman whose picture is a perfect body and face is going to be on POF, which in reality is for the older, plain-faced, overweight woman majority - sorry, but true. Please help, I am not aware of an account that I have with POF and they are taking money from my bank account.
I cannot log in as I don't know the user details to inform them to close it down. I cannot find a contact email or phone number to write to them. There are no real people who will ever show up on that tab. Also people there tend to be incredibly shallow, vapid and downright mean. All it will do is kill your self-confidence.
Oh also someone tried to catfish me. I want to add some more to my previous review. I have a POF setting that prevents people from messaging me unless their message is 50 characters in length. I thought that would stop the sexbots from emailing me. But I just got a message from a sexbot and the message was "Hey there! Even when I click on "Who's Online", I see at least sexbots. I think that POF is officially dead. Markus must have gotten greedy and decided that he could make more off of sexbots and die hard loyalists than before when it was just upgraded members.
Someone needs to make a new dating site because POF just isn't what it was before with the nonstop sexbot spam that Markus allows. I want to add more to my previous review that I posted a couple of days ago. Just today, I have already received six POF emails from sexbots. I will probably get some more before the day is through.
Also, I mentioned in my previous review that I created a user script to remove crap from his website. Some of the crap that I removed involved red alert notifications indicating someone was interested in me or something. It's just a scam to trick you into spending money so you will see who was interested in you. Markus likes to pretend that he is a champion of justice, and caters to feminist types. He lets women have empty and two-word profiles, but requires that males have three sentence profiles.
It should be the same for both genders. Even though there is already a profile setting that can limit who can contact you based on gender, age, location, etc. Well if he is so high up on his horse and thinks he is such a warrior of justice, don't you think he should show some integrity? Trying to con people out of money by setting up a fake "someone is interested in you" notifications is a lack of integrity. This guy doesn't have integrity. Which is why we have a dating site that is being overrun by sexbots now, despite the fact that he has been working on this site for decades and has plenty of web development experience and expertise.
I never put the website or the owner down. I wanted to take advantage of the bug report and suggestion threads in the Forums. As soon as I explained the problem on the forums, I was attacked by a group of people, mostly women. Then later, some woman was complaining about how this stranger treated her like complete crap and she can't get over it and him because she was otherwise attracted to him. It was so long ago, I don't remember exactly. I probably said something to the effect that she needed to embrace her hate and anger a bit, otherwise she will find herself in this situation again and again for the rest of her life and always be a victim.
This wannabe moderator immediately attacked me and said that there couldn't possibly be worse advice than I was giving and then he basically sweet talked her and blah, blah, blah. I found out later that he posted a lot on the forums and signed every single one of his posts with his nickname, trying to bring attention to himself. Needless to say, he became a moderator. Markus must like self-serving douches like that. Those two aren't really complaints. But this one is. I think that if someone only wants to receive emails from people within a certain age, then they can set limitations on their profile "only interested in men from " or something like that.
It's already a profile option.
But Markus one day decided to go far beyond that and you immediately can never ever message or receive messages from someone outside of your age range. I just disagree with that totally. Not only that, but for many years any POF profile I create has to have a certain number of characters usually around sentences, but women's profiles have no character limit I know of because I often see completely empty or two-word profiles like "Ask me".
And I live in a small farm town of 4, in the Midwest. I moved here from Columbus, Ohio around 8 years ago. And I live near a small city. For many years, I would say the vast majority of women's profiles were real. But now it has been taken over by sexbots. First it was one full search page full of sexbots that got deleted within hours. Then it became two full search pages.
420 POF.com Consumer Reviews and Complaints
Now it is more like full search pages of nothing but sexbots. I don't think people are spending massive amounts of time to create fake sexbot accounts to annoy him or POF users. As some said, they send you to alternate websites that they believe are also owned by Markus.

So Markus could potentially be using POF to create sexbots to farm income for other sites he created. Picky people looking for something super specific in a partner. And guys, this is not the place for the younger millennials: Rather than being thrown into an endless pool of profiles, EliteSingles lets you pick out exactly what you're looking for. You'll be given a limited number of matches curated for you using 29 extremely detailed, professional-level algorithms based on the popular Five Factor Personality Test. They'll even show you your own results in comparison to those of potential matches to see how you stack up.
Like eharmony , the stuff to fill out is pretty lengthy — but that's what you want if you're looking for a lasting relationship, and this helps ensure that you aren't swiping through tons of people that aren't your type. Slow and steady wins the race, right? What you need to know: Separate pools based on location, religion, ethnicity, age, and sexual orientation. You can even break it down by profession if — for example, if you are or were a teacher, you might only want to date someone who was also a teacher.
All profiles are verified manually with an upscale Fraud Detection System. As you could have expected from the fancy-sounding name, EliteSingles is the most expensive of the bunch but we say worth it. Sign up here and read our full review here. Free, with upgrades See Details. On OkCupid , users can offer a ton of information about themselves through the site's Match Questions.
Per OkCupid's own stats, liberal women in particular have luck on the site. And in , the site offered users the chance to answer 50 "current events" questions that illuminate a user's politics. People spend a lot of time on site just perusing the questions that other people answer, and I like that. OkCupid is free for the most part, but does offer some paid upgrades for features like increased search abilities, a "free automatic boost per day during prime time," or even the option to browse privately in "Incognito Mode.
Plenty of Fish POF is huge and affordable, but caters to an older, more conservative crowd than most dating sites. Free, with upgrades available See Details. Plenty of Fish , sometime styled as POF, boasts 4 million daily active users, with 65, new users each day, apparently, and claims users send 1 billion messages per month. The site recently launched a feature that allows users to message others through Google Home. POF is pretty much entirely free , but does offer upgrades.
Like Zoosk, POF offers "tokens" that let users "highlight" their profiles so that they stand out to other users, send a message that goes straight to the top of their inboxes, or send a "Super Yes" to users they're particularly interested in. It has both a desktop site, and an app. Hey, maybe they're just putting all of their focus on the matchmaking. Since the profile building takes some time, we'd suggest answering all of the questions on a desktop, but doing the actual swiping and matching on the app.
POF is also not bisexual friendly, which definitely sucks.
A site with the M. If a site's janky aesthetics don't bother you, POF offers the largest variety of potential mates of all the apps on this list. Regardless of whether you're super picky with your type or have no idea what you want, there's pretty much no way you won't find a few people out of 90 million who you find interesting. Hinge Hinge offers dating features that no other app has. Hinge gives the modern feel and no-patience-required matching like Tinder, but with the relationship rather than hookup mindset that sites like eharmony or Match offer.
Pretty much everyone is on the same page and knows that that this app isn't for sex, but there's no pressure to rush into marriage either. It's chill, it's legit, and traditional swiping apps should be worried. Hinge is the place for people who want a real relationship but don't want to commit to a full-fledged dating site with extensive questionnaires.
Hinge literally labels itself the relationship app, or as I prefer, the "anti Tinder. While Hinge first started by showing you Facebook friends of friends, their algorithm has been getting smarter and smarter, and is now able to surpass friends of friends as a predictor of compatibility. This means you won't be matched with someone all wrong for you simply because you know the same person.
2. Plenty Of Fish (POF)
Rather, Hinge will help you get to know the other person more deeply than any new app has attempted, by revealing answers to juicy personality questions and detailed information like future plans, religion, and vices. Seems like a pretty good recipe for a strong connection past looks, right? Hinge only gives you seven matches per day, which is a slight bummer. There's a wide range of people on this app, and having a day where all seven don't interest you is a definite possibility.
But Hinge isn't meant for constant swiping — and everyone I know who uses Hinge including myself hasn't ever felt the need to upgrade past the free version. It's a step up from hookup apps but the perfect level of serious for 20 and 30 somethings who want something real, but don't need anyone asking how many kids they want just yet. Tinder Tinder is where everyone is, and the setup is easy.
Free, with optional upgrades See Details. We'd look like total frauds if we didn't include Tinder.
Best dating sites Find a connection by this weekend
As much as we bitch about this swipe happy app, it's just too popular and works too well to leave it off the list. It has its obvious negatives, but the user friendliness, instant connecting, and massive potential match pool make it most people's first download choice when they need a quick hook up or confidence-boosting attention. Whether you love it or think it's trash, it's going to be one of the best for the foreseeable future, and those are just facts.
Tinder is place you go to find someone to flirt with ASAP. Everyone and their mother is on Tinder, and the wide variety of people means you'll never not be able to find someone close. Tinder is great for finding a quick hookup with someone nearby where you live, and it's especially handy if you're looking for a vacation fling or a local to show you around while you're traveling. It's pretty much online dating without the commitment: You can use it when you're bored, ignore it for three weeks, and come back to find new matches and a new crowd to swipe through.
This isn't to say that Tinder is only used for finding a one night stand or friends with benefits situation, though. A lot of people are truly on Tinder to find a real relationship, and it's likely that you know at least one couple that met on Tinder if you don't, just look at these mushy Tinder success stories.
Because you're making your swipe decision based on someone's photos and a tiny bio that's usually just a Parks and Recreation quote, Tinder gets a lot of shit for being superficial. And if you're only looking for a casual encounter, this speedy, no-frills process is exactly what you want. You mean, other than the obvious fact that you'll probably get carpal tunnel from having to swipe through so many profiles?
Well, there is no real matchmaking process, so Tinder will suggest literally every single person in the age range and distance radius that you set. And if you specifically opted to only see matches of the same gender, Tinder will still throw the opposite gender in there, because they apparently don't believe that you can actually just be gay. There's a disadvantage to the whole swiping-based-on-photos thing, too: Because true matchmaking is nonexistent, that face of that hottie who you matched with might be the only thing you like about them. Matching based solely on physical attraction is just asking for awkward conversations, horrendous disagreements, and unsolicited dick pics down the road.
You'll be lucky if you avoid being messaged something totally raunchy and uninvited, but most users are nice humans and will state their intentions in their bios. Say what you want about Tinder , but it gets the job done. Everyone shits on the shallow matching, but that fast-paced action is exactly what many young people want. If it didn't work to some extent, Tinder's user base would have gone downhill a long time ago.
Love is a gamble, after all. Grindr his is the place for gay people who can't stand the heteronormativity of apps like Tinder or Bumble. Regular subscription with ads: Grindr is the world's biggest social networking app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people, helping singles get it on since Because there aren't a ton of women on it, it's usually known as the app for gay men — and at 3.

Though it's kind of pegged as a hookup app, finding a lasting relationship on here isn't impossible by any means. Just keep in mind that many users you'll come across aren't looking for anything serious. What it's good for: This is the place for gay people who can't stand the heteronormativity of apps like Tinder or Bumble, and is especially handy for those looking for a friends with benefits situation. Grindr users have no chill. It's gay paradise, y'all, and if you've been thinking that you've met every gay man in your area already, Grindr might be able to show you some newbies who you never knew existed.
Instead of swiping right or left to match, you'll get a borderline infinite collage of people who are close location wise, and honestly, it's super jumbled and scary to look at. It can be a pretty speedy process if you want it to be, and most users just looking to hook up will let you know right off that they're not trying to make small talk. However, in , Grindr launched their thoughtful LGBTQ online magazine called Into in efforts to make itself look more like a lifestyle brand and less like a hookup app.
Grindr also announced that they're working on an option for users to notify potential partners of their STD status as a way to stop the spread of infections among dating app users particularly HIV and AIDS. They've tried this sort of thing before , but had some issues with sharing users' health information with third parties.
Overall, their hearts are in the right place, and I commend them for trying to promote the importance of safe sex. You're also going to get badgered for pictures as well, so if you're uncomfortable with that, steer clear for a while. Grindr is hookup heavy. It's nice that most users are honest about their intentions AKA no feelings mixups , but people looking for a serious relationship might get discouraged. We're not quite saying this a downside, because for those who strictly want to hook up, this is heaven. It's just something to keep in mind.
If you're a gay man, an app that's specifically for you is your place to shine. There are obviously gay men on Tinder, Match, and many other dating apps, but that's probably their backup app, and you're likely to circle through the same batch. No one wastes time on here, and if you're in the mood and looking for someone ASAP, Grindr won't steer you wrong.
